This sequence of stack demolation photos were taken on the morning of January 17, 1993. The 571 foot tall stack was built in in 1917 for the Asarco Copper Smelter in Tacoma Washington, replacing an older 307 foot stack. The smelter closed in 1985, this carefully controlled stack demolition was the first phase of a major cleanup and repurposing of the old smelter sight.
